Litmanen returning to Ajax
AMSTERDAM, Netherlands, Aug 30 (AfP) - Finnish striker Jari Litmanen has joined his former club Ajax on a deal until the end of the year, according to club official Leo Beenhakker here Friday.
Litmanen left Ajax in 1999 for Barcelona and joined Liverpool last year. However he has been unhappy at the Reds due to a lack of regular first team games.
"Every player wants to be in the team and I am no different. It makes you miserable when you don't get picked," Litmanen said in the build-up to Finland's friendly international against Ireland recently.
If he impresses at Ajax, Litmanen - in whom Turkish side Galatasaray also showed interest recently - could win himself a longer deal.
"We've given each other until the end of the year and then we'll reassess the situation," explained Beenhakker.
During seven successful years with Ajax, Litmanen scored 91 goals in 159 appearances. He failed to make his mark at Barcelona, making just 21 appearances for the Catalans before completing a switch to Anfield.
