Hiddink confirms PSV deal
Monday 1st July 2002
South Korea coach Guus Hiddink has confirmed he will take charge of PSV Eindhoven by the end of the week, ending speculation linking him with the vacant Leeds United post.
"First I need to sort some things out in Korea and that is where I will stay until Friday," he said.
"There will be some parties and ceremonies for me to attend before I return to Holland and get things sorted with PSV. First I have to get over the recent experience, get a fresh mind and then it will be a great challenge for me to start my new job."
Hiddink's comments come as a welcome relief to PSV chairman Harry van Raaij, who feared Leeds would wreck his move for the former Real Madrid boss.
Van Raaij had told Hiddink, who guided Korea to the World Cup semi-finals, to announce his plans by next Sunday, or he would look for another coach.
PSV fired Erik Gerets at the end of last season after conceding the Dutch title to Ajax.
