Ajax look to extend Mokoena loan at GBA

Ajax hope to extend South Africa defender Aaron Mokoena's loan at Germinal Beerschot for a further season. "We are trying to get him to stay for another year at Beerschot," said Ajax technical director Leo Beenhakker.
Mokoena, who is the youngest player ever to play for South Africa, has two years left to run on his contract with Ajax, but has spent the last 18 months with the Belgian side.
Mokoena made his debut for Ajax in a 2-1 victory away to Sparta in Rotterdam in November 1999, but made just six more appearances for them before being loaned out to Belgian side Germinal BA, in whom Ajax hold a 51 per cent stake, in the 2000-01 season.
He played six times for GBA that season, and continued his loan spell there the following campaign, although he never became anything like a regular. His first goal arrived in the 2-2 draw away to Lommel in April 2002.
Mokoena has also been linked with a move to Premiership new-boys Manchester City.
